Aussi appelée e-cigarette, cette invention de plus en plus répandue est destinée à offrir une alternative au tabac pour celles et ceux qui souhaiteraient arrêter de fumer. Imitant parfaitement jusqu’à la fumée dégagée par une cigarette, cette réplique est aussi appréciée par les accros qui en usent ainsi dans les lieux publics. La cigarette électronique, qu’est-ce que c’est ? La e-cigarette ressemble à s’y méprendre à une vraie cigarette. Mais contrairement à cette dernière, elle n’est pas composée de papier ni de tabac, mais d’acier inoxydable et d’une recharge. Dans la partie « filtre », une résistance permet d’activer le contenu de la cartouche; un flacon de « e-liquide ». À l’extrémité de la cigarette, une diode permet de simuler la combustion et une vapeur s’échappe de l’embout pour parfaire la ressemblance. Le fameux e-liquide, contenu dans la cigarette électronique, est composé d’additifs et parfois de nicotine, qui peut être présente en quantité. C’est ce dernier point qui pose aujourd’hui problème aux autorités sanitaires telles que l’OMS qui rappelle que la nicotine est une substance « très dangereuse ». La cigarette électronique est-elle dangereuse ? L’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) tient à faire la lumière sur les véritables dangers de l’utilisation des cigarettes électroniques.
